February 13, 2010 by Railtown Staff

mounting bracket

This image shows the front of the cab. The missing bracket (left) was removed for repair. The bracket on the right is intact.

Norm repairs the crack, while Al helps heat the piece with a rosebud tip.

Consistent heat throughout the process is important with cast-iron welding.

cooling

A slow cooling process is also important. Norm drops the piece into a bucket filled with ash. The ash will insulate the cast iron so it can cool slowly.
