Sierra #3 Chassis Move

Today was the big day!  The frame for the Sierra #3 was transported to the Sacramento shops of the California State Railroad Museum.  One day in the next few weeks, the boilers will join it there, and the erecting will begin! 
The day began with staff at Railtown moving equipment out of the Tri-Dam shop.  The loading process requires us to completely clear the shop track, so that a switching engine and flatbed car can be used to push the equipment onto the truck. 
When the truck arrived, the trailer was dropped at the entrance, and a temporary track was built up onto the trailer, held together with bolts and propped up with graduated beams.

As the Kailuna film crew documented the moment, the chassis and parts were loaded onto the rig, and the process was reversed to restore the shop so work could continue.  The load was delivered to the Sacramento shops in the early evening, making it a long day for everyone involved.
 
The day ended at the Railtown Shops with the insertion of the final crankpins, ending the restoration of the driving wheels.
