In the final leg of its long trip, the original boiler for the Sierra #3 is being shipped this morning from the shops in Sacramento. Greg Kelch, Jim Bays and Leonard Jones were up early this morning to meet the State Parks driver Mark Johnston, for the loading of the boiler onto the trailer. It is expected to arrive at Railtown by 1PM, where it will be removed by crane and put onto display. Visitors later this year will have the unique opportunity of riding on the #3, then inspecting the boiler of the train they just rode! It is a unique, early design, known as a wagon-top, with only one size of tubes.
Greg and Jim will also be joining the crew at Railtown, starting next week, to assist with the rod assembly and other elements, to help us meet our tight deadline.
