Railtown 1897 to Host Team Fox & Dazzling DeLorean Time Machine On-and Offers Sierra No. 3 Train Rides

Special Weekend of Activities – October 2 & 3

JAMESTOWN, Calif. – On October 2 & 3, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park (SHP) is planning a special weekend of activities that movie buffs and rail enthusiasts won’t want to miss.  Decked out to resemble the one that appeared in Back to the Future III, a dazzling DeLorean Time Machine will be on-site on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. for photo opportunities alongside movie co-stars Sierra No. 3 and Caboose No. 7.  The eye-catching DeLorean is provided by Oliver and Terry Holler in support of  Team Fox, a grass roots initiative for The Michael J. Fox Foundation designed to help raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s research.  While there is no cost for photo opportunities with the DeLorean Time Machine, donations will be accepted on-site for Team Fox and normal Park admission fees apply ($5 for adults, $3 for youths ages 6-17 and free for children five and under).

Additionally, memorable excursion steam train rides behind the recently restored Sierra No. 3 at

3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.  This is the last weekend in 2010 that public rides aboard the “Movie Star Locomotive” will be available. The historic train rides last approximately one hour in length, include refreshments on board and a photo stop where passengers can step off the train and take pictures as Sierra No. 3 does a visually exciting full-steam “run by.”   

These memorable rides through the scenic Gold Country cost $24 for adults, $12 for youths ages 6-17 (children under five are free) and include Park admission. Discounted train ride ticket prices apply for Railtown 1897 SHP members and California State Railroad Museum members (Conductor level and above) at $21 for adults and $9 for youths.   When purchasing tickets, visitors have the option to choose either the open-air coach or the limited seating in the indoor observation car.  All passengers are able to move about between the two cars during the train ride.  Advance tickets to ride behind Sierra No. 3 are available by visiting www.railtown1897.org or by calling 209-984-3953.  Railtown 1897 SHP is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Reservoir Road in Jamestown, near Sonora.
